A FEW COMMENTS ON GIVING:

 

Tithing is obedience to God in the area of giving:

 

In order for us to show God our love and thankfulness for the grace and mercy He continues to give us, we must be obedient to His Word and His will (John 14:15). Tithing is God’s plan for funding the Kingdom work that He allows us the privilege to experience. More importantly, the tithe is our chance to show our love for Him through faithful obedience. The word "tithe" literally means tenth or 10%. Tithing, or giving ten percent of our income is a step of obedience as described in Malachi 3:6-17. We are literally giving back a small portion of what already belongs to Him. All that we have, or hope to have, comes from Him and belongs to Him. The Bible says that tithing is a reminder that God is the supplier of everything (1 Chronicles 29:14). Giving through the Biblical principle of the tithe teaches us to always put God first in our lives.

 

Offerings are the gifts above and beyond the Tithe:

 

An offering is anything we give above the 10% tithe. In Malachi 3:10, God says, "Go ahead; I dare you; See if you can out-give me." The offering is a way for each of us to raise our level of generosity (Luke 12:48). You can give additional gifts to the general budget, sports ministries, missions activities, mortgage debt elimination, and more. So go ahead; God has given us permission to test Him and experience the blessing of being generous at a much higher level (Proverbs 11:24-25)!
